Here’s a little more detail on each of the health benefits & benefits of regular workouts on a stepper machine. Read more about it Best Stepper Machine Home.
The stepper exercise is a low impact exercise
A stepper machine is considered a low-impact workout because your feet never leave the surface of the machine.
In a nutshell, this means that on a stepper you are sparing your hip, knee, and ankle joints from the repeated shocks that come with running or an aerobics class.
These activities require your feet to leave the ground and come back down hundreds or thousands of times, with your full weight pressing on every joint in your lower body at impact.
It’s easy to see why they’re considered high-impact exercises.
High-impact exercises like this aren’t the best option for seniors (40 & up) or anyone else dealing with joint pain, arthritis, or bone loss issues like osteopenia or osteoporosis.
So using a stepper machine to do our low-impact cardio workouts is a great alternative.
Stepper exercise = cardiovascular benefit
The American Heart Assn. recommends that we do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate physical activity to reap its benefits.
A stepper machine provides a moderate level of aerobic activity when you use it for your regular 30-60 minute steady state cardio workout.
Steady state just means you’re going at the same pace throughout the entire workout.
One big way that regular physical activity like this benefits us is that it improves our cardiovascular health.
This means that our heart will become stronger thanks to our constant exercise and will not have to work as hard during our daily lives.
As a result, we will gain more stamina, and normal tasks that involve physical effort – such as carrying groceries up the stairs – will be much easier, thanks to regular exercise.
A stronger heart also gives us the opportunity to participate in more of life’s fun activities, like playing catch with the kids, going for a long bike ride, or going on a hike with our dog.
Burn calories & lose weight on a stepper
Does a stepper machine burn calories? Of course it does.
is stepper machine burn enough calories to lose weight loss?
Well, the depends on a couple things how we’ll look at now.
How many calories do stepper machine workouts burn?
To find out, use an online calculator like one or consult a chart that has a list of every common exercise options (treadmill walking, skiing, stair step machines, and much more.).
Now check with calculator, This type in my personal stats:
Height: 6′ 2″
Activity: stair step machine
Duration: 60 minutes
Hit enter – every hour on the stepper machine burns 500 Plus calories.
Your number will be different of course.
Weight is the main determinant here, so if you weigh more than me you’ll burn more than 572 calories.
If you weight loss, you will burn less.
To lose weight, burn more calories than you consume
Experts at the Mayo Clinic say we need to burn 3,500 more calories than we consume for every pound of weight loss.
Let me illustrate how to kick start weight loss using a stepper machine & myself on an example.
So if I do a 30-minute workout on the stepper machine 6 times a week (3 hours long), I burn about 1,700 calories/week above what my body uses when inactive*.
(*You need a calculator that gives you your Basal Metabolic Rate, which is the number of calories your body burns per day if you are inactive. Here’s one for you.
And if I clean up my diet and cut my daily calories by 500 a day, that’s another 3,500 fewer calories a week.
Combining the best diet and exercise on the step machine, in this example I am now burning+ reducing 5,200 calories/week more than I am taking in with all my eating & drinking.
That’s about a pound and a half of weight loss per week, which is great.
Medical experts agree that 1-2 pounds per week is a safe amount for weight loss.
Strength training on a stepper
Your leg and gluteal muscles (also known as the gluteal muscles) will be strengthened by regular cardio workouts on a step machine.
This is because a stepper workout provides a form of resistance training, also known as strength training.
The resistance comes from the hydraulic piston(s) that your muscles encounter when pressing down on the pedals of the step machine.
Some mini-stepper like my Sixer have adjustable resistance.
So as your leg muscles get strong and you can increase the resistance of your encounter in your workout.
Progressive resistance training
Increasing the intensity steadily and gradually is called progressive resistance training.
This type of strength training program offers a lot of benefits for your physical & mental well-being.
